Thanks to powerful CAE know-how, all the characteristics of each new series and each derivative are now described digitally before initial hardware activities even start. But the digital transformation of vehicle development is powerful and changes step by step even downstream processes. For example, this is the case with investigations of test data by mathematical analysis.

Each prototype generates enormous amounts of data - which is used to check all vehicle functions before the start of production. The earlier errors are detected and corrected, the less testing work will be required, while the quality of vehicles will be increased significantly before mass production starts. Intelligent combined analysis technologies can lift this approach to a new level and provide both automotive manufacturers and supply partners with early important insights into processes and products – provided the wealth of individual information is correctly integrated and processed, that is.

How does the car industry benefit from Car Analytics?

The aim is to obtain a high level of maturity as early as possible in vehicle development projects. The sooner a fault or any unreliability is detected in a component, the better. With Car Analytics, manufacturers achieve new insights along the entire automotive value chain. This begins in the trial phase, in which GIGATRONIK can make large data streams capable of being analysed, using frameworks like Hadoop; and it also extends to After-Sales. For example, these technologies enable information from field data analysis to be applied practically, so as to detect specific defects in components. When needed, recalls can be carried out earlier, faster and in a more targeted manner. From vehicle development through to overall quality assurance, we have the capacity to recycle all types of data produced, to create data models and to build applications for analytical purposes. With this expertise, we can interpret data properly and in so doing, help manufacturers to optimize processes and products. When it comes to development work, there is just no way to avoid Big Data.


What are the practical advantages of the new analytical methods?

Whereas the current generation of vehicles already provides major quantities of data, data streams are set to become even broader and more complex in the future. The analytical capacity of traditional business intelligence tools is currently bumping up against its limits and will be unable to keep up with ever-increasing volumes of data. With Car Analytics we can close this gap. Using tools like QlikView and Tableau, we are also able to evaluate classic databases and ERP systems, as well as sensor data and data from big data ecosystems. This data can be brought together in a comprehensive information pool; and then can be combined and enriched with other facts and a wide variety of different analyses run. With this approach, we can not only provide OEMs with data more rapidly, but we can also provide better quality data – something that represents a real competitive advantage.

What is a typical application scenario?

Our starting point is a process sheet containing technical content, together with some sample applications. We then adapt these individually to the needs of our customers and their specific problems. In addition to advice and consultancy, the main benefit we provide is enabling implementation in specific areas by developing corresponding analytical applications. Using Analytics and BI applications as well as data science methodology, we can prepare any fundamental data available to manufacturers so that value-added insights can be extracted; and the resulting information is then tested for efficacy by our E/E engineers. At GIGATRONIK, we can do this thanks to teamwork between our IT specialists and engineers, all of whom have major electrical and electronics expertise.
